Introduction
Twenty years of practical experience, teaching skills, and consulting skills help me determine and provide just what you need to make your organization more effective.
Consider one example: You need your management team to develop strategic and tactical plans. Success depends on teamwork and a structured planning process. I can help you by:
- showing your team how to become more effective
- teaching your team a structured planning process, and
- facilitating the planning process.
Another example: You are implementing a significant change such as a re-organization or change in processes and computer systems. I can help you by:
- evaluating the organization's readiness
- creating and supporting the change management team
- preparing the organization for change, and
- planning and implementing the change.
I also speak to corporate groups about communication and culture in the office, using material from my book FYI - Bean Counters Have Sexy Ideas Too": histories and mysteries of words used in the office. A marketing manager at a Fortune 500 company: “Rick set a great tone for the meetings and opened people up to issues of communication and culture in a fun, gently thought-provoking way. Highly recommended.”

Comments from adult students:
- I meant to e mail you when I arrived this morning … to let you know that I thought we had a great class last night. It's nice to drive home with a "learning high."
- By the way - your class is really excellent (great instruction and such relevant information). You are really good at challenging our (my) thinking. I am glad I will be leaving the program with this class as one of the last. It's really valuable and I hope I can apply and use some of what I learned in my new position.
- I will say that this class has been the best class that I have taken so far. I really got a lot out of it. Thank you!
- I really did enjoy the class. I'd have to say it was probably the best class I've had and you have been by far the best professor ever. I learned so much, and I really do feel like I can implement a lot of what I learned in my work. I also want to thank you for the way you got everyone connected and interacting in the class. It really added to the enjoyment of it.
- I really enjoyed the class and the point of view you brought to it. Very well organized and I learned a lot — wished more of the classes were on par with it.
Background Information
Rick Marolt has twenty years practical experience in middle and executive management. He has taught at UW-Madison, Edgewood College, and the Fluno Center for Executive Education.
Rick has degrees from Carleton College, Princeton University, and UW-Madison (executive MBA - first in class).
Rick has worked in insurance, hospitality, and publishing as a computer specialist, information technology manager, assistant vice president of operations, and business manager. The last two positions listed involved much work in strategy, planning, and operational improvement. The business manager position involved much work in accounting, finance, human resources, and performance management.
Thus Rick’s education and experience span most functional areas of a typical business. He has managed and re-structured departments, developed software, implemented computer systems, analyzed and revised work processes, designed performance management methods, structured strategic planning processes, done hands-on accounting, reported and interpreted financial results, worked directly with a board of directors, designed and implemented an internal economy, estimated the value of small businesses, designed and implemented a management reporting system, coached managers, used personality profiles in many situations, made changes in organizational structure, mediated conflict between employees, and advised a board of directors on significant problems in billing and collections.
