Scott C Little, the founder of Focal Point International, is a graduate of Purdue University in Mechanical engineering. he has over 30 years of product development experience, including 10 years in the leadership business capacity.
He worked with Harris Corporation under a secret security clearance as a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the area of Q-switches, mode lockers, acousto-optic beam deflectors, acousto-optic modulators (AOM) and acousto-optic tunable filters (AOTF) used for high resolution laser printing.
He worked with Nicolet Instrument Corporation as a Manufacturing Test Manager, Mechanical Engineering Manager and Director of Product Development in the area of FTMS, FTIR, NIR and Raman spectrometers and accessories.
Performed internal auditor role in the initial certification process for ISO-9001 and was the author of quality management systems and quality manuals. He co-authored and implemented modern product development processes for reduced time to market and ensuring implementation of design for manufacturability “DFM” techniques. He created and implemented a corporate new product portfolio management system and facilitated the consistent implementation at multiple development sites around the world.
He also worked with Thermo Spectronic, a division of Thermo Electron (now Thermo Fisher Scientific) as President and General Manager in the area of Visible and UV-Visible Spectrophotometers and color measurement, where he ntegrated Spectronic Instruments (Rochester NY) and Unicam UV-Vis (Cambridge UK) into one new company with a new strategy and business focus. He has performed due diligence audits used in approving several mergers and acquisitions.
Most recently, he worked with PIKE Technologies as its President in the area of sampling accessories for Molecular Spectroscopy including FTIR, NIR and UV-Visible techniques. He directly formed a network of international dealers and distributors resulting in international sales contributions over 65% of combined sales and over 20% annual growth.
Focal Point clients have included Next Testing LLC, Fiveash Data Management, A2 Technologies and Middleton Research, all startup businesses specializing in high technology instrument development and manufacturing.
Other affiliations: Member of the Society of Applied Spectroscopy and Coblentz Society. Currently serving (2007-2011) term on Governing Board of Directors of the Coblentz Society. Member of the Madison Area Business Consultants and the Knights of Columbus.
